Biography:
He does comedy at its most basic - no props, no exaggerated enthusiasm, no guitar for the big closing number, just joke after great joke about Canada, your town, and some jokes about the news of the day.
He is a comic voice doing “observational jokes” about politics, our culture and current events. He eschews autobiographical material, long drawn out stories, and character comedy, instead focusing on ‘cultural observational’ stand-up, short and punchy lines, and appeals to the a broad range of age groups and international crowds.
Russell Roy has been performing his unique style of stand up comedy since 1995, becoming one of the best liked, and most uncommon comedians on the Canadian stand up circuit. He can both delight a crowd, and offend at the same time, by putting the “F” into funny (if required), or working polite and ‘all clean’.
Audiences, critics and the entertainment industry have all voiced their approval of this often shameless, yet absolutely hilarious Canadian.
Eye Magazine described Russell as "dark and cynical" – that was before. He’s a lot more cheerful now. Shift magazine grouped Roy in with a breed of stand up comic breaking new ground with an irreverent mix of great one liners, a laid back delivery style, and clever “off the cuff” spritzing and ad-libs (that is, if he gets heckled or forgets where he is in his act). He has to be seen to be appreciated, so come out and see him.
Russell appeals to a large and broad audience, with his precisely honed and well polished act, communicating his unique comedy material skillfully, fearlessly and entertainingly, showing us we can all face the truth - and laugh!
